13 - Boundaries when Recovering from Sex Addiction and Betrayal Trauma
In this episode, Kylene and Patrick discuss what boundaries are, how to set them effectively, and they offer specific examples for you to consider on your own journey of recovery from betrayal trauma.
*Special NOTE* A good friend and dedicated listener brought to my attention that we did not mention a VERY important caveat!! For anyone in a relationship where they need to protect their future option to LEAVE the relationship, certain boundaries that we mention in this episode are NOT appropriate. For example if you are considering leaving at some point, in many cases you may need to have a separate bank account where your partner has no access and perhaps doesn’t even know it exists. And in these circumstances you certainly wouldn’t want a location app on your phone that they have access to. We always encourage you to set boundaries in a way that PROTECTS YOU as the betrayed spouse! You know your partner best and you know whether they will be safe or not (based on their history in the relationship). If you find yourself in an abusive situation (verbal, emotional, physical OR psychological) we also HIGHLY encourage you to work with a professional who can help you untangle the confusing thoughts around this and support you in creating a safety plan!!!
